Ed Banger Vol. 2

Yeah yeah, you know about it already yada yada yada. But I actually knew about it way before you. I knew about when it wasn't even made yet. I knew about it when my dad was dating my mom. Blah blah blah. Oh yeah. Well what was your GPA? How fast can you run the mile? How many times did you beat Contra? Take off your pants. Let's measure our dicks.

HISTORY: The AMEN Break

6 seconds from 1969. Sounds like a documentary. Oh wait. It IS.

Heavy Rotation

The above picture is from Curbed LA and it has absolutely nothing to do with this post except for the fact that I really like looking at it. The below songs are from fluo kids (has everything to do with you + your ears + magicness) and I really like listening to them.

Cassius - Rock No. 1 (mp3)
Throwback Freestyle slash Electronic slash R&B slash Electric Bass Guitar Slaps kind of a sound with dashes of Prince, El Debarge, Pharrell, Sheena Easton, and Midnight Star. Trust me.

Cassius - Rock No. 1 ( k i m Remix) (mp3)
This is an electronic remix of the above, which is equally as nice... and deserves equally as many words, but I can't think of more to say. But seriously, it's good.

R. Kelly - I'm A Flirt ft. T.I. & T. Pain.mp3 (mp3)
I've been fighting with my greed on this one, but here it is. You'll probably find it around town anyway. And for this song, let me remind you that R. Kelly is the king of R&B.

+

I ran into this quick video from nice guy J at Still-Listen, which I just haad to post and you must see before reading further. For real.

DJ Must Haves

What a segue huh? There are a couple of songs with these guys in them, which any good jiggy DJ should have this year.

I don't normally do this, but uh...

There's this remix. It's by Premiere. It's got Kanye, Nas, KRS, and Rakim all on one track. Let me repeat. It's got Kanye, Nas, KRS, and Rakim all on one track. Insane right? Yeah, I know. The song is called "Classic" and that's what it is. For real. The original version is produced by Rick Rubin. Maybe you can find it on the interweb. Although, I wish I heard these guys named among classic MCs more often.

I'm glad this came out because so far this year, there are only a few songs that I have been able to get into. I tend to think of songs like they are food. And when I don't have enough food, I get hungry. And the side effects of hunger make me get all kooky. Like Cookie Monster. Man, I love that guy.

Lily High In The Sky

That pretty picture above is from The Modern Age, and although it may look like a "hybrid-trekkie+lily allen-vision-of-a-perfect-little-dream" of which I will make no reference to wetness or dryness, it's not. It's Lily at Webster Hall last Saturday (2/10). I wasn't there, so I'm not going to speak on it. But you can probably read about it at a bunch of different fine online places. I'll go ahead and suggest up there. I must say, isn't that a nice picture?

Changing gears, I have this video of Aaron Lacrate's Gutter Remix for "Smile" instead. I thought my internet connection sucked at first and the video was skipping, but was compelled to post this once I reached about the 2:10 minute mark and the song/video reached it's climbing glory with explosions at 2:30 which kept me reeled in and officially hooked. Oh, the glory. Oh, man. The glory.

p.s. I mentioned that something of the "sort of a big deal" variety will go down with J Dilla a little while back. I think it was expected, but if you haven't heard Dilla was named Artist of the Year and Record Producer of the Year at the recent PLUG Awards.

One Man Show

I ran across this hilarious video from my man Khal.

I can't decide which line I like better. There are just way too many...

"You don't hear me huh? OK, Imma say it again. I come in the name of Jesus. Repeat it after me bitch. I come in the name of Jesus by the power of the holy spirit. God almighty. You know, ruler of heaven and earth and every God damn thing in between! You understand me now?"

"Say what? You trustin the devil huh? Well if God sends the devil in the name of Jesus by the power of the holy spirit then mutherfucker, you fucked up huh. You fucked up huh, you know yo' ass is due. What you got to speak? If you don't know shit to speak on then on some topic I'm bringin' up, shut yo' God damn ass up! Haha, 'amn."

The camera effects and Ice Cube's "Bop Gun" in the background too? Ooowee!

KIR Radio [02.03.2007 - Electric Soul episode]

Photo from The FADER by Todd Cole

I lagged on this FADER 43 party recap and I know you don't wanna hear any excuses. It's about a week later so if you haven't already, you can go to The FADER recap here because they're professionals. Or, you can see the playlist to this week's show for a list of a-sort-of-an-audio-reinterpretation of the night here. Does that make sense?

Live and Learn

Maybe you heard about the Jus Ske mix by now. The dude mashes Pharrell's vocals from the In My Mind album with instrumentals from Prince, Eric B. & Rakim, Outkast, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, Stevie Wonder, Herb Alpert and more. Get it here if you haven't already. It's called My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me.

But maybe you haven't heard about this other guy yet. This dude is straight heat (I've been using the "fiyah" reference a lot lately so you know i gotta keep with the theme). I'm talkin' the heatness. The hawtness even. This fucker causes forest fires. Somebody call Smokey Bear. Makes me wanna burn shit down and get vintage Drew Barrymore on muthafuckas.

I need to slow down.

The dude I'm talkin about is Mekalek, the album is called Live and Learn, it came out in 2006, now hear's some audio:
